| 作品解説 | 人と大地との絶え間ない対話、意識の根にあるつながり、あるいは、自らの体内に存在するいっさいの器官を無化したような人間の総体、そのような心理的な理想を想像させる人間像である。ついつい、ジャコモ・マンズーの「枢機卿」という作品を連想してしまうが、多分、作者は圧し伸ばされたような“高原状の身体”の輪郭の中に、永遠なる光と影のコントラストを極限的に表現してみたかったのだろう。 この作品は、宇部市の街中、市立図書館に近い地元企業・山口産業の社屋の表玄関に設置されていて、ここを訪れる人々は、ついついエリを正して入るような緊張感に包まれてしまう。題名にある「PLATEAU（高原）」とは、そのような心理的現象を指しているのだろう。作者は下関出身。 The human figure invites us to imagine a kind of psychological ideals, such as the ceaseless dialogue between man and the earth, the connection at the root of our consciousness, or humanity as an aggregation, in which every organ in our body is nullified. Its appearance might recall “Cardinal” by Giacomo Manzù in some viewers’ mind, but the artist probably wanted to achieve the ultimate expression of the eternal contrast of light and shadow in the silhouette of this pressed and extended “plateau-like body”. The work is installed at the entrance of the office building of Yamaguchi Industries, a local company near the municipal library in downtown Ube. Because visitors to this building inevitably feel the tension and urge to straighten themselves, “PLATEAU” in the title probably refers to such psychological experience. The sculptor is from Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi. |
