| 作品解説 | 【作者コメント】「SEED」。日本語では「種」を意味します。次の世代の生命を内在し、時を待ち、時が至れば発芽し、天空を目指し生長する。 生命が誕生し、生長を始める時の、希望にあふれた力強い姿を造形的に表現しました。 ---- 直径2メートルの巨大な球形二つをつなぎ合わせた形態。下方の球形が地面とわずかな接点を持ちながら、斜め上方に危ういバランスで立ち上がる。このバランスが、作品が生命を持ち、動き始めることを予感させる。表面は磨き上げられた鏡面のステンレス鋼。周囲の景観を取り込みながらも、量塊性の強い形態（球形）によって、周囲に埋没せずに空間と対峙（たいじ）して、彫刻としての存在を主張する。球形の鏡面には、個々の球にそれぞれ下方に地面が、上方に空が映り込む。二つの映像は接合部分で斜めに接するため、作品は回転運動をしながら分裂していく印象を得る。それが作品の運動感と呼応し、景観をねじ切って増殖していくようである。球形の鏡面の映像は、鑑賞者が必ず作品の中心に位置する。それは、作品世界ではその中心に見る者が存在することになる。上下二つの球に映った自分を見る時、作品によって分裂していく景観の中に居る自分を見いだすことになる。題名の『SEED』は種子。細胞の分裂をイメージさせる二つの球形は、同時に、映り込む風景を、そしてその中にある鑑賞者自身も分裂させていく。 The sculpture consists of two huge, joint spheres with a diameter of 2m each. It stands precariously and almost erect, while the lower sphere keeping a minimal contact with the ground. The instability creates the sensation that the work is alive and about to move. The stainless steel features a mirror-finished surface, which takes in the landscape while at the same time stands in contrast to the surroundings, establishing its distinctive presence as a sculpture. The mirror surface of the lower sphere reflects the ground, while the upper sphere reflects the sky. The two visions crisscross at an angle at the joint, creating an illusion that the two spheres rotate and split from each other. The dynamism of the work further adds a visual sensation that it twists and breaks the landscape apart and multiplies. A spherical mirror always captures the viewer right in the middle of the reflection. Therefore, an artwork comprising of a spherical mirror always features the viewer at the core of the scene it creates. When the viewer finds him/herself in the reflections of the upper and lower spheres, he/she would see how he/she is held in a landscape that splits. The title, “SEED”, implies the splitting cell represented by the two spheres, which capture both the landscape and the viewer in its splitting movement. |
