| 作品解説 | むくむくと隆起した地層を思わす彫刻である。素材は粘土を焼いたテラコッタ。2m×3mもある大きな固りで、もちろんこんな大きなものを焼ける窯はないので、いったん粘土で作っておいたものを幾十数個ものパーツに切って焼き、それを再び元通りに組み合わせたものである。横に波打つ地層の褶曲現象、最下部は縦の波が上方へと盛り上がりをみせている。陶土を素材にした屋外彫刻はめったにみられなかったが、近年ようやくこんな彫刻も登場するようになった。周遊園道の一角、ちょうど湖水の岸辺の赤土が遠望できるところに設置され、その落着いた地層とこの作品の変動する様とが対比できて、私たちに見えない地殻変動の予兆を感じさせてくれる。 The sculpture looks like bulging and rising strata. The gigantic mass of terracotta (baked clay) has dimensions of 2m x 3m. As no kiln can accommodate a lump of clay at this scale, the sculptor cut the full-scale model into several dozens of smaller parts and pieced them together after baking them. The structure features wavy, horizontal folds of the strata, while vertical waves in the bottom layers swell upwards. Open-air sculptures made of pot clay used to be extremely rare, but sculptures like this one are finally emerging in recent years. The piece is installed at a corner of the loop route overlooking the red soil along the lakeside in the distance. The upheaval depicted in the piece against the backdrop of calm, stabilized strata makes us aware of the invisible signs of tectonic deformation underneath. |
