| 作品解説 | 2枚の鉄板が天を指し、その周囲に自然な状態の石が点在する。大空へ向う垂直性（鉄板）と大地へ広がる水平性（石）とが呼応し、作品は周囲を取り込みながら遠心的に展開する。そのために、物理的なスケール以上の大きさを感じさせている。「誕生し生きることを表現してみたかった」と作者は言い、「自然現象や旅から得た贈りもの」をモチーフとすると言う。地面を連想させるさびた鉄が天へ向かうのは、植物が芽を出し成長する姿を思わせる。一見、幾何学的な鉄板も角を落すことで、生物の持つ柔らかさが感じられるように扱ってある。この作品が出品された第15回現代日本彫刻展のテーマは「翔（はばたく）」。未来へ向かって成長していくイメージを内包しているテーマに沿っての制作である。 手前の上部を切った石は、鑑賞者のための座椅子。見る者は作品の一部でもあるその石に座り、直接関わり、作品を自分の内側に取り込むことができる。制作者が前面に出る“つくられた”ものではなく、鑑賞者に見出されて、おのずから“なる”ものとしての彫刻。鑑賞者一人一人の心の中で作品ができ、成長していくものとして、企画されたようでもある。 In the work, two iron plates point to the sky, around which natural stones are scattered. The skyward verticality of the iron plates and the earthbound horizontality of the stones correspond with each other to develop a centrifugal expansion of the work, taking in the surroundings along the way. Its effect makes the artwork look larger than its physical scale. The sculptor “wanted to express what it is like to be born and to live” and takes motifs from what he “receives from natural phenomena and journeys as gifts”. The rusty iron, reminiscent of the earth, heads towards the heaven just like a sprouting and growing plant. The apparently geometric iron plates seem to acquire organic softness by having their corners trimmed. The theme of the 15th Contemporary Japanese Sculpture Exhibition, in which the artwork was an entry, was “Habataku (fly / flutter wings)”. The production was conducted along the theme, which contains an image of growth towards the future. the frontal stone with shaved top is reserved as a seat for viewers. It invites viewers to sit on the stone, which forms part of the work, directly interact with the work, and take in the work as part of the viewer. The sculpture intends to “become” a sculpture through the viewer’s act of discovering it, instead of being an ostentatious “creation” of the creator. The piece seems to have been designed to be created and developed within the mind of each viewer. |
