| 作品解説 | 1970年代といえばミニマリズムやアルテ・ポーヴェラ、日本ではもの派が大きな美術思潮の中心となった時代である。要するに人間中心だった彫刻観から素材の豊かさを再認識しようという思想である。この作品は一辺が1.5mの単純なコンクリートの固まりであるが、作者はわざわざそのコンクリートを数十個に分解し、それを積み重ねて一つの立方体に還元してみせている。つまりかたちはつくるものでなくすでに素材の中にかたちがあることをにおわせているのである。最上部の二つの断片をわざわざ下に落として設置したのはそのことを象徴している。 Globally, 1970s was the era of minimalism and Arte Povera, while Mono-ha (object group) dominated the art scene in Japan. To put it simply, the movements encouraged refocusing on the richness of materials instead of focusing on people, which was the mainstream sculpture ideas until then. The piece consists of a simple lump of concrete with 1.5m on a side. The artist went all the way to divide it into several dozens of smaller pieces and then pile them up to restore the single cube. In other words, the artist implies that a shape is not something you create – shapes already exist within a material. The two topmost pieces deliberately left on the ground symbolically assert that truth. |
