| 作品解説 | 北国の女の子の彫像は作者の得意なテーマの一つである。スカーフをかぶったり帽子をかぶったりのポーズをとっているのが多いが、その中でもハーフコートをまとった「冬の子供」は厚着をすっぽり包み込んで実にバランスのとれた親しみやすさがある。とくにクツをはいた足元の表情がなんともいえない。雪グツとその下の雪の厚さも一緒にまとめ上げてひと塊とし、この像に力強い重心を与えている。“彫刻の街・宇部市”の育ての親、故星出市長を顕彰して、宇部市民有志の手でこの像が寄贈された。 Statues of girls in the northern land is one of the sculptor’s favorite themes. Girls of his creation often cover their heads with scarves or caps, but Winter Child, wrapped in thick half coat and standing in a perfect balance, is particularly endearing. The expression of her booted feet is inexplicably adorable, as her snow boots and the thickness of the snow below her is expressed in a single lump, creating a powerful gravity point. The statue was donated voluntarily by citizens of Ube in honor of the late Mayor Hoshide, the founding father of Ube City as the “city of sculptures”. |
