| 作品解説 | 一連の土谷作品の中でこの第3回展（1969年）の出品作は少しばかり異色である。というのもこの年は現代日本彫刻展ではじめてテーマ制作が採られ、ステンレス、アルミ、プラスチックという「三つの素材による現代彫刻」がテーマだったからである。60年代は、経済的な高度成長を遂げるとともに新しい素材が数多く開発された。同時に、美術思潮のうえでは海外の多様な彫刻思想が一挙に流入し、わが国の彫刻史上で素材や造形表現が最も活発に模索された時代だった。それを反映してか、地上に横たわるアルミの人体のような有機的フォルムと抽象的にすっくと立つ鉄の円柱が対照的な取り合わせを見せ、双方が対となり新しい現代空間を象徴させている。 Among the series of works by Tsuchitani, the entry for the 3rd exhibition (1969) stands a little apart from other works. In 1969, a theme was given to participants of the Contemporary Japanese Sculpture Exhibition for the first time, which was “contemporary sculpture featuring three materials: stainless, aluminum, and plastic.” 1960s was the age of rapid economic growth, in which various new materials were developed. In the art world of Japan, the era was marked with the influx of new sculpting ideas from overseas, prompting active pursuit of new materials and formative expressions at an unprecedented scale. Probably reflecting the trend, the combination of humanlike organic forms of the aluminum lying down on the ground and the abstract iron columns stoically standing next to them creates striking contrast, as if in symbolization of a new, contemporary space. |
