Comment | This glass bottle is dated to late Sasanian period or early Islamic period. The clear bluish green color of the bottle is impressive but unusual for the Sasanian glass. The color would have been made by adding iron into the material melted in reducing atmosphere of the furnace. The color of the glass by iron ion is sensitively affected by the redox atmosphere of the furnace in which the glass material is melted. Probably ancient craftsmen carefully prepared materials to make intended colors. |
