ProvenanceMesopotamia
PeriodLate Sasanian period
Date5th-7th Century CE
MaterialGlass

CommentA free-blown bowl in thick pale green transparent glass; the mouth rim has been fire-polished and the pontil mark has been removed by cutting. The exterior is decorated with five rows of circular facets, but like the example at Shosoin, the facets are not meshed. From the top row, the cuts number 16, 16, 13, 7 and 1. Despite a little iridescence on the interior and upper half, this is an intact object in exceptionally good condition for Sasanian glass.
