| Comment | Black vultures are distributed around southern Europe, Anatolia, central Asia, Tibet, and northeastern China. This huge bird measures 110–110 cm long with a wingspan of 2.5–3.1 m, and it eats mostly carrion. Its head does not have feathers, and grayish-white skin is exposed. The neck is covered with scarf-formed feathers. It is thought that black vulture was the model of the Assyrian relief of Apukallu. This bird, which was stuffed, flew as a stray to Fukui 1990, and then was bred in Kyoto City Zoo until 2007. |
