| Comment | A free-blown bowl in pale green transparent glass with slight yellowing. The mouth rim has been finished by grinding. The round-bottomed bowl narrows below the mouth rim, and the pontil mark on the bottom has been removed by cutting. Ornamented with four rows of densely packed oval cuts, the base is covered with oval cuts running horizontally and vertically. Fine cracks can be observed over the whole body, but the bowl is almost intact with only a few repairs at the mouth rim. It was collected as an example similar to artifacts from Tomb No. 126 at Niizawa Senzuka in Japan and was thought to be early Sasanian glass based on the characteristics of the shape. The results of analysis by x-ray fluorescence spectrometry have, however, confirmed that the composition of the glass is characteristic of Roman glass. |
