CommentLuxurious pottery with colorful pictures drawn over the white glaze was born during the era of Great Seljuq Empire. This is minai ware. After applying white glaze and drawing in cobalt blue and Turkish blue, minai ware is fired once. Then, after painting with red and black mineral pigments, it is fired again. These extremely time-consuming minai wares were produced only for a limited period between the late 12th century and the first half of the 13th century. This piece has an arabesque at the center of the inner surface, as well as four pair of figures under a tree, arabesques, and zigzag patterns, each repeated four times on the sides of the inner surface. There is an inscription on the outer surface that goes around once; however, it is not legible. While many minai wares have been touched up later because their prints over the glaze are easily peeled off, this piece still shows its original coloring.
