Comment | A hemispherical bowl made with glass canes of white opaque glass, dark brown opaque glass, and light brown transparent glass. A glass cane made by trailing white opaque glass around light brown transparent glass has been fused to the mouth rim. Plate-like glass has been stuck to the base to create a foot. Thought to have been made by core-forming. Damaged and repaired, missing parts have been filled in with resin. By distinguishing between transparent and opaque glass cane, the bowl reproduces not only the striped pattern of an alabaster vessel, but even the sense of opacity. |
