Comment | Chinese fuyoude plates were very popular in the Islamic world. A type of design that began during the Wanli period in the Ming Dynasty (late 16th century), fuyoude uses a main design drawn in the center of the plate and surrounding patterns that are divided into eight equal panels to resemble a lotus flower, fuyou. Hand-copied fuyoude ceramics were also made in Iran under the Safavid Dynasty in the 17th century. We can see that this piece also has a design of rokaku sansui (palace and landscape) inside and aspires to Chinese ceramics with its blue pattern on a white background. |
