Comment | The crescent-shape axe was found from ancient tombs in Luristan, western Iran. Its socket into which the shaft is inserted is decorated with a recumbent lion. On the joint of the blade, the head of another lion is relieved as if the lion holds the blade in its mouth. It is not plausible that lion live in Luristan, the mountainous area more than 1000m above sea level. The design of lion seems to be affected strongly from spiritual symbols in Mesopotamian alluvial zone, west of Iran. |
