Comment | This is a cup for ritual. A rosette pattern is drawn on the bottom, with a braid pattern and scales around the rim. On the trunk are two winged oxen that are raising a tail gore at each other. The motif of the winged ox is seen frequently in Nimrud of the Neo-Assyrian period (early first millennium BC). In the same period, a similar decorative pattern is seen on the golden cups excavated from Marlik and Hassanlu in northwestern Iran. |
