CommentAs the art of navigation developed around the turn of the 9th century, Chinese white porcelain produced between the end of the Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period was transported to various places as trade goods and became very popular. As a result, numerous imitative pieces were produced in Mesopotamia. Being one of these imitative products, this piece painstakingly imitates not only the shape of white porcelain but also the way the white glaze is poured even on the bottom. Due to low firing temperature, this piece is very fragile. In order to compensate for this shortcoming, it features designs drawn in indigo blue that appeal to people in the Orient, a feature which is not found in white Chinese porcelain.
