CommentThis plate is called as "Persian Sancai (three colored)". The form is imitated from metallic vessel. The green color created by copper, brown by iron and violet by manganese are clearly vivid respectively. The example of which each grazing colors clearly appear like this is not many, because copper colors to green in an oxidation atmosphere whereas manganese colors to violet in a reducing atmosphere. Moreover, navy colored by cobalt that is often appeared on Tang three-color ware is not applied to this example even though they are quite similar each other.
