Comment | Susa was an ancient city from 4000 BC to the Islamic period. It was the capital city of the Elamite kingdom until about 1200 BC. It was destroyed thoroughly in the seventh century BC by Assurbanipal of Assyria, but Darius I of Achaemenid Persia rebuilt the city as a capital of his empire and built the huge palace of the Babylonian style. The palace of Susa was decorated grandly with glazed brick, which was full of colors, unlike that of other cities, including Persepolis. |
