Green Glazed Jar with Applied Decoration

CommentThis type of jar is considered to have been used as container of the merchandise in Indian Ocean Trade. The similar examples were excavated from archaeological port cities between eastern Africa and Japan. The archaeological site in Fukuoka prefecture, Korokan yielded tens of sherds of this type of jar. In 2009 at Saidaiji, Nara, fragments of this type of pottery was excavated together with strips of wood on which the date of AD 768 was written. They are important discovery showing terminals of Silk Road on the sea existed in Nara period, Japan.
