Comment | After pouring white slip over the orange-colored surface, palmetto patterns are drawn by using incised lines. Green and brown lead glaze are carefully applied over it according to the marked line patterns. Lead glaze melts when fired. The glaze that is allowed to run down, taking advantage of this quality, skillfully adds soft movements to the sharp incised lines. Closely resembling Tang sancai ceramics, this pottery is called Persian sancai, suggesting the exchanges between the Chinese world and the Islamic world. |
