CommentShoe-shaped pottery dating from the Bronze Age to the early Iron Age has been found in Anatolia and northwestern Iran. This type of pottery was thought to be a rhyton, which is a container from which fluids were intended either to be drunk or to be poured out in a ceremony such as a libation. The shape of a tiptoe is characteristic. We can see the u-shaped, incised decoration on the instep of the shoe. This decoration suggests that the pottery imitated a moccasin, a type of shoe consisting of a sole and sides made of one piece of leather, stitched together at the top with a vamp (additional panel of leather).
