Comment | The earliest settlement in southern Mesopotamia was established around 6000 BC. The culture called Ubaid was named after its dark-painted, pale pottery which was excavated for the first time at Tell al-Ubaid, southern Mesopotamia. Ubaid culture featuring this unique pottery has been found throughout Mesopotamia, and it spread into northern Iraq, Syria, southern Turkey, and even the Gulf area through the fifth millennium BC. Social changes were observed in various aspects before the urbanization began in the Uruk period of the fourth millennium BC. |
