Comment | A lot of examples of carinated stone bowls with four studs on the bottom are found at Tell Bouqras, eastern Syria in seventh millennium BC. Around the site, there is a mine of beautifully veined limestone. Tell Bouqras might have been a specialized craft center for stone vessels like this for export to other villages. The stone was carefully ground into shape using a harder stone and abrasives without metal tools. |
