Comment | A bridle is depicted on the face of a horned animal (perhaps a bull). Four wheels are attached to the legs. The earliest evidence of a wheel is a pictograph on a clay tablet from Uruk dated ca. 3300 BC, which shows two circles under something like a sledge. Wheeled chariots drawn by four onagers are depicted on the so-called Standard of Ur dated 2500 BC. A clay figurine of a four-wheeled chariot was found at Tell Chuera, Syria, dated the third millennium BC. The invention of the wheel had a great influence on battles and on the transportation of goods. This piece might have been a kind of toy, because the wheeled legs show an unrealistic feature. |
