| Concept | 80年代に盛んに作られた「ドン・キホーテ」シリーズにかわって、この作家の90年代は聖書にまつわる「聖家族」シリーズがはじまった。この人の彫刻の面白さは細い金属の丸棒を熔接で組み合わせて成り立ち、従来の量塊を加減しながら形成していく彫刻とはまるで趣きが違っている。ノアの洪水を逃れて小鳥を解き放ちながら逃げまどう家族の姿はいずれも細身でユーモラスな格好にできあがっている。宇部市のシンボルロードの出発点JR宇部新川駅そばのロータリーの角にあって、市民生活が遭遇するさまざまな試練に向けての勇気を鼓吹するかのように立っている。この池田宗弘の他の作品「ドン・キホーテ」シリーズのもう一点は、ときわミュージアム（緑と花と彫刻の博物館）の入口に設置されている。 “Holy Family” series of the 1990s replaced “Don Quixote” series, under which the sculptor prolifically released works. The fun of his sculptures lies in its method, in which he welds and combines round metal rods, resulting in outcomes totally different from a standard sculpture, which typically carves out a shape by manipulating a lump. The wandering family members of Noah, releasing birds while escaping the flood, look thin and humorous. Located at the corner of a rotary by JR Ube Shinkawa Station, where Symbol Road starts, it stands as if to instill courage into citizens as they encounter various challenges. Another work by Munehiro Ikeda from “Don Quixote” series is installed at the entrance of Tokiwa Museum (Museum of Green, Flowers, and Sculpture). |
