解説　00XBC0300～00XBC0304はイポリット・ブーランジェ商会（Société Hippolyte Boulenger et Compagnie）のブランド「鉄の土（Terre de Fer）」から出された、ビゴーの下絵に基づく絵皿のシリーズ「日本の生活場面」全12種のうちの5点である。イポリット・ブーランジェ商会の前身は、パリよりセーヌ川上流12kmに位置するショワジー＝ル＝ロワで1804年にパイヤール兄弟が創設したファイアンス陶器製造の会社である。19世紀後半には1000人を超える従業員を抱える規模となり、この町有数の企業となったが、1938年にその歴史に幕を下ろしている。「日本の生活場面」では、日本の近代化への皮肉や奇妙に思える日本の文化などが描かれる一方、日本だけでなく万国共通で起こるように思われるおかしな事柄も描かれ、見る人の笑いを誘う。

00XBC0300 – 00XBC0304 are five plates from a set of 12 depicting scenes of Japanese life based on preparatory drawings by Bigot, manufactured by the Terre de Fer brand of the Société Hippolyte Boulenger et Compagnie. The predecessor to this company was a faience manufactory founded in 1804 by three Paillart brothers in Choisy-le-Roi, located 12km upstream on the Seine from Paris. The company employed more than 1,000 people in the latter half of the 19th century and was one of the major companies in the town. The company closed in 1938.
This set of dishes depicting scenes of Japanese life satirizes Japan’s modernization process and what Bigot saw as the oddities of Japanese life, while on the other hand, was meant to make people laugh by showing funny incidents that were common not only in Japan but rather to people everywhere.
