解説　「日本の郵便」を主題とするカレンダーのための下絵。同様の主題で別の絵柄による1909年のカレンダーの存在が確認されている。また、これらどちらとも異なる同主題の下絵の存在も確認されており、1909年のカレンダーのために本作を含めていくつかの下絵を制作した後、最終的にひとつが採用されたものと考えられる。
　カレンダーという日用品にこのような主題が選ばれていることは、1909年という時期になっても日本の風俗というのはフランスの一般の人々の興味の対象となり得たことを示していると言えよう。

This is a preparatory drawing for a calendar on the Japanese post office. The same topic in a different guise can be seen in a calendar for 1909. Another different drawing on the same theme also has been confirmed. Thus, it is thought that he produced several drawings including this one and then finally one was chosenfor use.
The choice of this subject for an everyday use item like a calendar indicates that in the year 1909
ordinary French people were interested in Japanese customs and subjects.
