解説　ビゴーは1885年12月から翌年にかけて『改進新聞』に挿絵を寄せている。1885年12月9日付の同紙にビゴーと契約した旨と彼の経歴の紹介記事が掲載されて以降、西洋各国の公使や首脳などの肖像画や、東京の各名所の風景などを挿絵として提供している。　　
　本作は1886年6月6日付の同紙一面に掲載された《東京七公園中淺草新園枯冬の圖》の元となった水彩画であろう。木の葉の落ちきった冬、冷たくも清らかな空気に包まれながら散歩するひとつの人影。寂しい景色のなかに落ち着いた美しさを見出した、愛らしい作品である。
　「東京七公園」は1886年5月2日からほぼ週一回の頻度で同紙上に発表された、東京の7つの公園を描いたビゴーの作品から成るシリーズ。最終回となる6月13日に掲載された《東京七公園之内芝愛宕山初夏の圖》は、当館所蔵の《東京 愛宕山》（00XBC0041）を元に制作されたと考えられる。

From December 1885 through the following year Bigot produced illustrations for the Kaishin Shimbun. The December 9, 1885 issue of the newspaper includes an introductory article mentioning that they had contracted him for this work and giving his biography. He then went on to provide illustrations, including portraits of the ambassadors and heads of state of various Western countries and landscape views of famous Tokyo sites.
This work is probably the watercolor that formed the basis for ≪Asakusa Park in Winter≫ (one of ≪Seven Tokyo Parks≫ series), published on the front page of the June 6, 1886 issue of Kaishin Shimbun. A solitary figure is seen strolling on a path in winter, with trees bare of leaves and the air cold and fresh. This is a somehow loveable image, as we discern a subdued beauty amidst its lonely scene.
Bigot's ≪Seven Tokyo Parks≫ series, of which this is a part, appeared approximately once a week in the newspaper starting on May 2, 1886 and depicted seven parks in Tokyo. The final image in the series appeared on June 13, ≪Mt. Atago, Shiba, in Early Summer≫, and it is thought to have been based on ≪Mt. Atago, Tokyo≫ (00XBC0041) in the Utsunomiya Museum of Art collection.
