解説　建物の中から窓を通して捉えたと思われるブルターニュ地方のある街角の風景。温かみのある柔らかな色彩が印象的な作品である。当館に収蔵された時点では画面上部に絵具の大きな剝落が見られたが、鑑賞の妨げとならないよう2020年に補彩を行っている。　
　本作の制作年代をビゴーの来日前とする文献も存在するが、その根拠は明示されていない。来日前の油彩画は他に知られていないため比較のしようもないが、空や雲、海などの大胆かつニュアンスに富んだ色彩、安定した構図、ラフなタッチを用いながらも的確に描かれた人物の身振りなどからは、本作がむしろ日本から帰国した後の時代の作品であることを示しているように思われる。帰国後にブルターニュ地方で制作されたと考えられる作品としては、当館所蔵の水彩画《サン＝セルヴァンの海辺》（00XBC0176）などがある。

It looks like Bigot saw this street corner scene in Brittany from inside a window. This impressive work has a soft, warm color palette. When this painting entered the Museum collection it had a large scrape across the top of the work, but this area was retouched in 2020 to prevent the scrape from distracting the viewer.
Extant literature dates this work to prior to Bigot's arrival in Japan, but the source of this dating is unclear. Since there are no other known oil paintings from his pre-Japan period, comparison is impossible. However, the bold and richly nuanced palette used to depict the sky, clouds and ocean, stable composition, and rough yet accurate figural pose depiction all suggest that this work dates to a time after he returned to France from Japan. Works thought to have been created in the Brittany area after his return from Japan include the watercolor ≪Seaside near Saint-Servan≫ (00XBC0176).
