解説現在までに確認されているビゴー最大の絵画作品。ビゴーは1887年8月26日に旅先の熱海からフランスにいる母親に宛てて手紙を書いているが（00XBC0063a,b）、その中で「ぼくはサロンに出すために、海辺の風景、漁師、漁への出発か戻りか、とにかくそういった類のもの、小舟の進水なんかを主題にして、ここで何か描くつもり」であると記している。本作がその作品であると考えられているが、記録によれば本作がサロンに展示されることはなかったようである。

This is currently the largest extant confirmed painting by Bigot. Bigot wrote a letter (00XBC0063a,b) to his mother on August 26, 1887 while on a trip to Atami, and in that letter he stated that while in Atami he was painting a number of works of the local scenery, namely, seaside landscapes, fishermen, fishermen setting out to sea and returning, with the hope to enter one in the Salon. This work is thought to be one of these paintings, but records indicate that it was not displayed in the Salon.
