Iveco-Magirus Ladder Truck

DescriptionMounted on an Iveco chassis, the steel, 4-section hydraulic ladder is 30m long with a basket attached. This ladder truck was stationed at the Shimura Fire Station in 1983. The ladder could be controlled from the basket and descend below parallel. It saw service in both firefighting and lifesaving rescue missions until its retirement in 2000.
It was imported via the Kintetsu Automobile Company. At the time it was imported, the original single cab was expanded to a double cab, and the maximum number of passengers grew from 3 to 6.
In order for this ladder truck to fit in the garage at the Shimura Fire Station, 50mm of the garage's concrete had to be ground down.
Before the Second World War, the Japanese pronunciation of "Magirus" was slightly different, but due to what is believed to be a clerical error at the Ministry of Transportation, it has its present day pronunciation.
