Description | The Ahrens-Fox pumper fire engine was imported from the United States of America in 1924 and was in service until 1946. Other fire engines had their pumps fixed near the center of the vehicle, but the Ahrens-Fox was unusual in that its pump was placed in a forward position. Additionally, the front tires were solid and puncture-proof, and there was no front windshield. These safety measures were implemented as the conditions of the roads at the time were bad, and there were concerns that the glass could shatter if struck by a rock and create a dangerous situation for the driver. |
