Horse-Drawn Steam Pump

DescriptionThe popularization of steam pumps for use in firefighting occurred in England in the 1860s. In 1870, the first steam pump was purchased by Japan. After that, steam pumps were both imported and domestically produced until eventually reaching 15 pumps. The unit displayed here was domestically produced in 1899. After lighting a fire using coal, it took approximately 20 minutes until the necessary steam pressure was built.
