| 作品解説 | 馬琴、北斎両者にとって生涯の代表作の一つである。馬琴初の長編史伝もので、史実では保元の乱後に配流先の伊豆大島で亡くなった源為朝が実は生き延び、伊豆諸島を統治した後、讃岐、九州を経て崇徳院の霊に導かれて琉球に漂着、妖術士曚雲に操られる琉球国を解放するまでを描いた、壮大な英傑流転の物語である。文化四年（1807）から八年にかけて、「前編」・「後編」・「続編」・「拾遺」・「残編」の5編が刊行され、全28巻29冊にわたり、北斎が迫力ある挿絵を寄せ、以下のような読本挿絵史上に名高い図を描いている。 永田コレクションには「前編」が2件（nagataⅠ/hok/c/330・331）、「後編」が3件（nagataⅠ/hok/c/350-352）、「続編」が3件（nagataⅠ/hok/c/364-366）、「拾遺」が2件（nagataⅠ/hok/c/385・386）、「残編」が4件（nagataⅠ/hok/c/389-392）収められている。 |
