| 作品解説 | この作品の画題はいわゆる小督弾琴（こごうだんきん）図で、高倉天皇が皇后がありながらも、宮中第一の美人で琴の名手の小督局を溺愛していたところ、故あって嵯峨野の奥に身を隠した局が、秋の月明かりのもと、天皇を想い琴を弾く様子を描いている。 広業の洗練された線描と色彩により、月光の下、短檠（たんけい）の光に照らされ琴の前に座す小督局の哀感と雅趣が見事に表現されている。日本画の伝統に則りながらも、光線美に着目し光線の強弱に応じて彩線を肥痩･濃淡で描写した表現方法は秀逸で、広業の歴史画の中でも傑作に数えられる作品である。 広業36歳の制作で、1901(明治34)年の第11回日本絵画協会･第6回日本美術院連合絵画共進会において一等金牌を受賞している。この年は広業が、1898(明治31)年の美術学校騒動に際し辞職した東京美術学校教授に復職し、自己の画塾を開設した年にあたる。 |
