| 作品解説 | 岳陵は、「写生」「自然の観察」「古画の研究」を制作の基本として、歴史画、現代風俗画、風景画など幅広い分野に新鮮な作品を遺している。また、《流紋》など水の表現に注視した作品を制作し、近代日本画家の中でも水の表現について注目される画家の一人である。 この作品は、岳陵が38歳の時に制作され、1928(昭和3)年の再興第15回院展へ出品された《流泉四趣》の内の1点である。 古画の研究からの着想に基づき、水墨画の手法により描かれた風景画で、繊細な筆遣いによる自然描写に優れている。渦を巻く微妙な水の流れを、軽快に線描を駆使して自在に描き分け、また、光による明暗表現を巧みに取り入れることにより、風景に奥深い情趣を醸し出している。この線描への執着と関心は、のちの一連の着色作品にも脈々と継承される。「古風なものと新しいもの」「自然の写実と心象の世界」を一貫して追求した岳陵芸術の一端を示しているといえる。 |
