| Description | This photo shows soldiers leaving for war and the people seeing them off. The soldiers departed Kumano Shrine, the village shrine of Sekido, at 8 a.m. on June 16, 1938, and were seen off at Sekido Station (Seiseki-Sakuragaoka Station). When the soldiers were leaving for war, the Tama Village National Defense Association notified them of their departure date and time, and requested that many people, including elementary school students, see them off and that each household raise the national flag on the day. "Sekido Station" refers to the current "Seiseki-Sakuragaoka Station." Sekido Station was renamed Seiseki-Sakuragaoka Station on May 1, 1937, and it is believed that the station was already called "Seiseki-Sakuragaoka Station" at the time the photo was taken, but the album lists it as "Sekido Station." |
