DescriptionTama New Town is designed on the principle of "separation of pedestrians and vehicles." Because roads were built in the valleys and residential areas were built in the mountains, many overpasses for pedestrians were built within the new town to cross the valleys.

Functionality was emphasized in the Suwa and Nagayama areas, where early construction of bridges was the most important issue, but later on, design began to be taken into account in Toyogaoka and kaidori areas.
The triangular bridge between kaidori and Nagayama is one of the earliest designed bridges in Tama New Town.

Comparing the old and new versions, the landscape other than the bridge has changed dramatically due to the growth of trees, the construction of high-rise housing complexes, and the greening of the median strip.
