| 解説 | 小山の師であるフォンタネージは、すでに1878(明治11)年に帰国し、師からの直接の指導を離れ、後任への不満から工部美術学校の仲間達と退校し、十一会で研鑽している時の作品です。中央の道を挟んで桜並木が続く一点透視図法の構図は、小山の「道路山水」と称される鉛筆画にも多く見られる構図です。全体に褐色の色調でまとめ、遠くに広がる空を明るい色で奥行きを出し、フォンタネージの自然主義的な画風を忠実に継承した作品と言えます。 Koyama’s teacher, Fontanesi, left Japan in 1878 and Koyama stopped receiving direction instruction from him. Koyama and his classmates at Kobu Bijutsu Gakko (Technical Fine Arts School) felt dissatisfaction with Fontanesi’s successor and left the school to form the “Association of the Eleventh.” This work is from that period. One-point perspective composition, in this case with the row of cherry trees continuing along the in the center, is often seen in Koyama’s doro sansui (“road landscapes”) pencil drawings. This work is said to faithfully inherit the naturalistic style of Fontanesi’s work, with its generally brown tone given depth with brighter colors in the sky. |
