| 解説 | 本作には「大正5年」(1916年)という年記と落款が刻まれていますが、1913年(大正2）の第7回文展に出品して褒状を受けた作品をもとにして、後年制作されたヴァージョンの一つと考えられています。展覧会で好評を博した作品を縮小して制作し頒布することは当時普通に行われていたようです。当時四海は大理石彫刻の第一人者として名声実力が広く世に知られるようになっていたため、作品の人気と需要も一層高まったのでしょう。 This work is marked with a seal from "Taisho 5" (1916), but it is considered to be one of the later versions that was produced and based on the original one that was shown and received an award at the 7th Bunten Exhibition in 1913. At the time, it was popular to produce smaller works for distribution since they were well-received at exhibitions. Shikai became known as a leading figure in marble sculpture in this period, and the popularity and demand for his works seemed to rise greatly. |
