| 解説 | 画面のほぼ中央に堂々たる大樹が描かれ、自然の雄大さを象徴するような役割を果たしています。その木陰に赤い衣をまとった人物が佇み、竿漕ぎ舟はゆっくりとそちらに向かってすすんでいくように見えます。ルソーは1830年代に頭角を現しましたが、ロマン主義を感じさせる大胆な筆触などからサロンで落選を繰り返す不遇の時代を経験しました。本作品はその頃の制作です。48年の二月革命以降は画壇での地位を回復し豊かな晩年を迎えました。 A magnificent tree is centered in the frame, symbolizing the majesty of nature. A person in a red robe stands in its shade, and the rowboat appears to be moving towards it. ROUSSEAU made his mark beginning in the 1830s, but experienced an era of unfortunate repeated defeats at the Salon due to his bold, romantic brushstrokes. This work is from that period. He regained prominence as a painter after the February Revolution in 1948 and enjoyed prosperity in his late years. |
