| 解説 | ジュネーヴの毛皮店「ベンガル虎」の注文で、店内の装飾パネルとして描かれました。バッカス祭とは、ルネサンス期より好まれてきた神話主題で、古代の酒の神バッカスを囲んでの賑やかな宴の場面です。店の名にちなんだ虎をはじめ、さまざまな動物たちが描かれ、大らかで祝祭的な雰囲気が漂っています。もとは一画面でしたが、店から撤去されて売り立てに出された後、分割され現在の姿となりました。 This work was produced as a decorative panel for a fur store called Le Tigre Royal (“Bengal Tiger”) in Geneva. The Bacchus Festival regained popularity during the Renaissance period, and was a scene of debauchery dedicated to Bacchus, the god of wine. A variety of animals are depicted, including the tiger that the store was named for, created a warm and festive atmosphere. The original work was a single screen, but after it was removed from the store and sold, it was eventually split up, creating the current appearance. |
