| 解説 | モデルとなっているのは作者ドニの婚約者であるマルト・ムーリエで、二人は翌1893年に結婚しました。画面左上の人物やマルトの後ろの手すり壁越しにみえるシルエットなど、画中にさり気なく描き込まれたモティーフが二人を暗示しています。また、左下隅に置かれた花瓶の把手が腕のように伸び、マルトがモーリスを包み込むかのように表現されています。額の装飾をマルトが施した共同制作であるという意味でも特別な作品です。 The model for this work was Denis’s fiancée, Marthe Mourier. The two were married in 1893, the year after this painting was made. Several motifs in the painting imply the two were a couple, such as the figure in the upper left corner and the silhouette visible through the railing behind Marthe. The handle of the vase in the lower left corner extends like an arm, as if to hold Marthe. The work is also special in that it is a collaborative work, with Marthe decorating the frame. |
