| 解説 | 夕焼け雲が広がり、深紅の太陽が水面を染めながら今にも水平線の向こうに沈んでいこうとしています。フランス北西部の景勝地エトルタの海岸を描いた作品です。1860年ル・アーヴルで海洋画家ブーダンに出会ってから、クールベは英仏海峡海岸を訪れるようになりました。本作品は1869年8月から9月までエトルタに滞在して描いた一点です。力強い構図と、ペインティングナイフを用いる近代的な技法により、迫真的なリアリズムが感じられます。 The clouds spread at sunset, with the crimson sun coloring the surface of the water as it sets over the horizon. Seashore of Étretat, Setting Sun depicts the coast of Etretat, a scenic spot in northwestern France. Courbet began to visit the coast at the English Channel after meeting marine painter Eugène-Louis Boudin at Le Havre in 1860. This work was produced during his stay at Etretat from August to September 1869. You can feel the realism of this work through its powerful composition and modern technique employing a painting knife. |
