| 解説 | 1960年に蝋型鋳造技術において重要無形文化財保持者（人間国宝）の認定を受けた作者は、初期には革新的工芸グループであった「无型」のメンバーとして、アールヌーヴォーやアールデコを思わせるモダニズム工芸を制作、近代工芸の礎を作りました。しかし、晩年になると、技法や主題を日本古来に求めて、青銅器を思わせる緑青を用いて、伝説に基づく幻想的な動物を作品化するようになります。本作もその一つで、あたかも古代中国で生まれたような時代を感じさせつつ、取っ手の部分には、蝋型鋳金を生かして、獣を模した繊細な装飾を施し、古代と現在が融合したような気品ある作品に仕上げています。 SASAKI was a certified important intangible cultural property holder (living national treasure) for his wax casting technology in 1960, and in his early years, he was part of the revolutionary art group Mukei, an Art Nouveau and Art Deco group producing modernist crafts and laying the foundation for contemporary art. In his later years, however, he began to seek out techniques and themes from ancient Japanese works, using patina reminiscent of bronzeware to create fantastic animals based on legends. This work is among those, making the viewer feel as if they were living in ancient China, with a handle decorated delicately to imitate the shape of an animal through wax-shaped metal casting, fusing the past and present. |
