| 解説 | 「牽牛花」とは朝顔の漢名。朝顔は、麦僊が最も好んだ花のひとつです。朝顔を描くために、庭に朝顔を育て、その傍らに足場を組んで毎朝太陽が上がる前から写生に励み、これを3年も続け、また朝顔を題材とした古典絵画の研究も執拗に行ったといいます。 大正時代までに描かれた華麗で装飾的な人物表現から、昭和期には対象の精神的な美しさを追求した静謐な画風へと転換し、多くは花の表現に結実しました。 Kengyuka was the name imported from Chinese into Japanese for the morning glory. This was one of Bakusen’s favorite flowers, and he planted and grew them in his garden, complete with scaffolding so he could sketch them each morning before sunrise. He continued these sketches for three years, persistently studying classic works of morning glories. His magnificent and ornamented style of human expression in the Taisho era shifted to a more tranquil style pursuing the spiritual beauty of subjects in the Showa period, resulting in many expressions of flowers. |
