| 解説 | 上空から眺めた当時のヴェネツィアの様子が克明に描かれています。繁栄を極めたこの都市を、画面上部の商業を司る神メルクリウスと、その真下にいるイルカに乗った海洋神ネプトゥヌスが見守ります。西暦1500年を意味する「MD」の年記、当時最大級の紙をさらにつなぎあわせて刷られた大きさ等、単なる地図としての機能をこえた特別な意図があることを思わせます。当館所蔵品は、6枚の版木に刷紙12枚を貼り合わせた第3版です。 Venice as seen from above is depicted faithfully. Mercury, the god of commerce and Neptune, the dolphin-riding marine god, watch over the prosperous city from the top of the frame and just below, respectively. The Image of the year label, “MD”, referring to 1500 CE, and the fact it was produced by connected several sheets of the largest paper size available at the time show us of that the intention of the work was beyond just functioning as a map, The collection at our museum is the third edition of the work, consisting of 12 sheets of paper on 6 wooden printing blocks. |
