| 解説 | 小林古径は、古典の技法や精神をいかに現代に生かすか研究を進め、新古典主義的画風を確立した画家ですが、そのために写生の重要性を認識していました。本作は、その卓抜な写生力を如実に窺わせるものです。主題の紫苑は雑草である風草とともに描かれており、これによって野生の紫苑の生命力が一層際だって見えます。ここでは古径が得意とする描線はあまり用いられず、色面によって構成されています。 KOBAYASHI Kokei was a painter who studied how to apply the techniques and spirit of classical works to the present day, employing a neoclassical style of painting. He recognized the importance of sketching for these purposes, and this work is a clear example of his extraordinary sketching ability. The subject is a tatarian aster, or shion in Japanese, and is depicted alongside a weed called love grass (kazekusa). The juxtaposition makes the vitality of the wild shion even more prominent. In this painting, Kokei does not use many drawn lines, which is one of his specialties, instead using planes of color in this composition. |
