| 作品解説 | 黒地に浮かぶ白い円は、幾何学的な円に比べるとやや歪み、動きを感じさせます。ただし、墨書のような勢いある一筆書きで、一気呵成に描いたものでもないようです。画面は物質感の薄いマットな仕上げで、黒と白の境界線はどこをとってもくっきりしています。また白の上から黒を塗ったことが確認できる箇所があり、白い円の形は、周縁を黒で塗りつぶすことで繊細に調整されたものであることがわかります。大らかさと緊張感を併せ持つこの円は、「他人の真似はするな」を命題に「具体美術協会」を牽引した吉原治良が、様々なスタイルを経て到達した代名詞的なモチーフでした。 吉原治良 1905‐1972 大阪市生まれ。1928年に関西学院高等商学部卒業後、同研究科を中退。1934年に第21回二科展に初出品。1938年に九室会設立に参加。1947年、日本アヴァンギャルド美術家クラブの結成に参加。1954年に具体美術協会を創設。以後1968年まで具体美術展に毎年出品した。1957年にミシェル・タピエの知遇を得て、世界現代美術展に出品。多様な画風を経て「円」のシリーズに至った。 |
| Description | The white circle floating against a black background is slightly distorted if compared to a geometric circle, giving it a sense of movement. However, it does not seem to have been painted in a single, energetic stroke, as would be done in ink calligraphy. The painting has been given a matte finish with a light sense of substance, and the boundary between black and white is clearly defined throughout. In addition, there are areas in which black has been painted over white, revealing that the shape of the white circle was delicately adjusted by filling in its edges with black. With a combination of serenity and tension, this circle was a signature motif for Yoshihara Jiro, leader of the Gutai Art Association, who lived by his motto of “Don’t copy anyone else,” and who experimented with a variety of styles before arriving at this. |
